You can tell that this Warrior is a cavalryman from his lightweight armour and his pleated lower tunic. Chinese cavalry of the period relied on speed to harass the enemy and then run. This is one of the troops who made up the bulk of Emperor Qins mounted army.
He is made to resemble a real terracotta warrior so is made from the same mud and low fired to recreate their appearance as they were uncovered at Xian.
